A three party working model connecting Spice Village, Periyar forest and native villagers, in which Elephant grass is used as a thatching material. The grass thatching keeps the inside of cottages cool, nullifiying the expenditure on energy. The native tribes are benefitted by employment and for the forest department benefits by the creation of fire lines inside the sanctuary.
